How does it affect frequency response, THD, and ANC?Updated 3 hours ago

Earphones rely on forming a seal in the ear canal (or in a standardised test coupler). Tiny changes in insertion depth, angle, or leakage can massively alter pressure and distortion readings.

For example, two tests with the same earphones but slightly different placements can give entirely different THD results.

Because of this, measuring THD in earphones is not very reliable and often doesn’t reflect what listeners actually hear. We believe this can be misleading to customers. That’s why at Flare we place greater value on subjective listening tests — actually using our ears to judge quality — as they give a truer picture of the real experience.
